Courier & SyncMoving policies

The terms that govern every parcel we carry and every home we move — written to meet Alberta consumer protection, provincial transport rules, and Canadian privacy law.

Consumer protection (Alberta)

  • All quotes, deposits and final invoices are itemized in Canadian dollars with GST shown separately, in line with the Alberta Consumer Protection Act and its Fair Trading regulations.
  • Estimates given online are good-faith rough estimates. If the final charge would exceed a written estimate by more than 10%, we contact you for written approval before the work continues.
  • SyncMoving relocations are booked under a written service agreement issued before the move date. You receive a copy in your account dashboard.
  • Deposits for moving services are 50% of the quoted job. Cancellations more than 48 hours before the scheduled start are refunded in full; inside 48 hours the deposit covers crew and vehicle commitments already scheduled.
  • No unsolicited charges are added after service. Any accessorial charge (stairs, long carry, wait time, storage) is disclosed before it is incurred.
  • Complaints are acknowledged within one business day. Unresolved disputes may be escalated to Service Alberta and Consumer Protection.

Transport & carrier compliance

  • SyncLink operates under Alberta commercial vehicle rules administered by Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors, including safety fitness certification for regulated vehicles.
  • Drivers hold a valid Class 5 or Class 4 Alberta operator's licence appropriate to the vehicle, and are subject to abstract and criminal record review.
  • Hours of service, load securement and pre-trip inspection requirements under the National Safety Code are followed on all regulated moves.
  • Dangerous goods are not accepted. We do not transport explosives, compressed gas cylinders, flammables, corrosives, ammunition, or any item requiring TDG placarding.
  • Cannabis, alcohol, tobacco and prescription medication are transported only where the shipper is legally authorized and the recipient can produce valid identification on delivery.
  • Restricted items also include live animals, cash and bullion, unset gemstones, and irreplaceable original documents unless a written special-handling agreement is in place.

Commercial liability & claims

  • SyncLink carries commercial general liability and cargo coverage. Standard courier liability is limited to $100 per shipment unless declared value coverage is purchased at booking.
  • SyncMoving default coverage is $0.60 per pound per article (released value). Replacement-value protection is available for an added premium and must be selected in the service agreement before the move.
  • We are not liable for damage to items packed by the customer (PBO), for pre-existing damage, for particle-board or self-assembled furniture, or for mechanical or electronic failure where there is no external damage.
  • Claims must be reported in writing within 7 days of delivery for courier shipments and within 30 days for relocations, with photographs and the booking reference.
  • Claims are acknowledged within 2 business days and resolved within 30 days. Payment of the invoice is required for a claim to be settled.
  • Neither party is liable for delays caused by weather, road closures, labour action, or other events beyond reasonable control.

Privacy & data protection

  • We collect personal information under Canada's PIPEDA and Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), and only for the purposes of quoting, dispatching, delivering and invoicing your service.
  • Collected data includes name, contact details, pickup and drop-off addresses, delivery photos and signatures, GPS trip data, and payment confirmations. Full card numbers are never stored by SyncLink — payments are processed by our PCI-compliant processor.
  • Location data is used only while a job is active. Optional GPS autofill on your device is off until you grant permission and can be revoked at any time in your browser settings.
  • Proof-of-delivery images, trip records and invoices are retained for 7 years to meet Canadian tax and transport record-keeping requirements, then securely destroyed.
  • We do not sell personal information. It is shared only with the driver assigned to your job, our dispatch platform, and our payment processor.
  • You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by writing to support.synclink@zohomailcloud.ca. Requests are answered within 30 days, and you may escalate to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta.

Service agreements, payment & scheduling

  • Every SyncMoving booking automatically generates a numbered service agreement listing the crew, truck, packages, coverage level, deposit and cancellation terms. It is stored in your account and downloadable as a PDF.
  • Accepted payment methods are credit card, debit, e-transfer and approved commercial net-terms accounts. Invoices are due on receipt unless net terms are in writing.
  • Interest of 2% per month (26.82% per annum) may be applied to commercial balances more than 30 days past due.
  • Rescheduling is free up to 48 hours before a move and up to 2 hours before a courier pickup, subject to availability.
  • Undeliverable shipments are returned to the sender and the return leg is billable at the original rate.
  • These policies are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein.
